Check dams at Rom Thai Village


We were contacted by leaders of a villages named Rom Thai.  The Shan people there having a problem of their bamboo check dams that the dams always broken after heavy rain.  They have to fix the dam every year.

We did surveys and discuss with the villages' leaders. Then it was agreed to try gabion box check dams.  We  had a big day together  with  many people involved.

It was confirmed  that the gabion box dams are strong and  work well there.  Our working together to introduce appropriate technology to the village can benefit 2,261 villagers of 430 households.

Water for Life at Baan Lisu Wiang Klang

It was very lovely to work together with Lisu people at Wiang Klang Village. Being very humble for their kind and friendship. Our water project increases more water storage capacity at all level: village, small clusters and household levels.

The project was completed but not at the end.  We hope our learning and sharing with the Lisu friends will bethe lessons hey can continue manage other problems in their village... this is the way to sustainable development, I belief.

Food Security in an IDPs Village of Pong Hai

After  39 years of relocation from Doi Pu Muen to Pong Hai Village, the Lahu of Pong Hai try to adjust themselves to the new home.  The mode of their farming practices were changed from shifting cultivation to mono crop pattern.  Village survey and discussions in 2015 reveal that 50 percents of their food are from the market while 25 percents are from the natural resources around the village which are forest and lagoon, 15 percents are from their farm product and 10 percents are from their culture of sharing and exchanging. It seems that they need some solution to be more self reliance.














A never ending journey !

 A big challenge to our 2025 journey  was Kok river degradation  from mining operations in Myanmar. Our Kok river became  muddy and contamin...
